We are a tattoo family – we come from a tattoo lineage. Our roots are in Taunee Beekman’s original Skin Deep Tattoo in Lahaina on the island of Maui. Taunee opened Skin Deep in 1976, where she drew many famous artists of the era to her shop for “working vacations” and a lot of great tattooing. Taunee apprenticed Tattoo by Design’s original owner Nanette, who moved to Eugene and opened Tattoo by Design in 1985. Nanette trained Bonnie Jean, who then purchased the studio in 1989, and later apprenticed our current artists Katherine, Diane and Ian, as well as several other talented artists who’ve gone on to make their careers in other cities.
